11U ADVANCE TO 4th CHAMPIONSHIP IN LAST 5 EVENTS PLAYED!

The Golden Era 11U team kept there hot play going by winning 4 games over the weekend and advancing to their 4th Championship game out of the last 5 tournaments played.

The only event in the last 2 months when the Golden Era 11's did not advance to the Championship is when they played up in the 12U division. That event seen them fall in the semi-final game by 2 runs, preventing them from playing the Golden Era 12U team in the championship game.

The weekend was highlighted by great starting pitching from, Brandon Hoover, Rocky Sizemore, Marco Ferrara and Jake Rogers, along with Blake Smith coming in for relief and by closer Nathan Hovey.

CODY WAGNER MAKES MOST AMAZING CATCH IN PROGRAM HISTORY!

It's been said before, one of the greatest things about the game of baseball is you never know when
one of those moments is going to happen that you always remember. You never know when a hit, catch or pitching performance is going to take place that brings the whole ball park to its feet in applause.

Cody Wagner (Spring 2014)

One of those moments happened Sunday afternoon, when 7 year old bat-boy Cody Wagner took the field in the last inning in a 11U game Golden Era was well ahead in against All-Out Baseball.

It was a moment that everyone at the field watching the game won't forget. With one out and a runner on 3rd base a high fly ball was hit over Cody's head. Cody broke back and in a full run reached out and made the catch.

Not only did he make the catch though, he had the field awareness to throw the ball back in quickly to the cut-off man keeping the runner at 3rd base.

It was awesome!

The entire crowd went crazy, cheering, yelling and applauding. The only two people who seemed not to be surprised were Cody himself and Coach Derek Bell.

Derek said,"When its all said and done Cody is going to be a phenomenal outfielder and baseball player. I've seen him catch balls like that when the players have been taking batting practice so its no surprise to me he made the catch. That's just the beginning of many great plays to come. But it sure was nice to watch!"

On a side note, when Cody isn't running down fly balls in the outfield, he's a switch hitter at the plate. Great job Cody and we look forward to watching catches like that for years to come!

Mothers Day Presentation of Roses (12's & 13's)

Moms are the rock...

Moms are the ones that usually wash the uniforms late at night after a long day of baseball so it's ready to go again for the morning.

Moms are the ones that make sure you have a water or Gatorade and make sure your sunscreen is on.

Moms are the ones after a tough game that tell their player, "It'll be alright and you'll get them tomorrow in just the right way to make you feel good".

And that's only a small piece on the baseball side, not to mention the 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year job that makes up being a mom.

Over Mothers Day Weekend our players honored their Moms by presenting them with a rose and telling every one something they appreciated about their Mom. It was awesome and very enjoyable to hear.

Great afternoon on the field and we appreciate each of you coming out for the ceremony!

WERE ALWAYS TRULY APPRECIATIVE OF KIND WORDS FROM OUR FAMILIES...

I would like to share my opinion of the Golden Era Baseball Program that my grandson has been a part of for the last three years.

I am extremely impressed with the no nonsense approach to the game that the coaches take while being sensitive to the fact that these are still young kids that will make mistakes.

I have never witnessed any of the coaches needlessly yelling at any of the kids or criticizing their playing ability or play choice in a way that would destroy their confidence and break their spirit. The coaches do a great job of "emphasizing" to the players their strengths when pointing out how they can improve on their weaknesses.

The practices are very structured and run in a way that keeps all players busy at all times. They break up into groups to work on fundamentals and drills related to their positions. After a set period of time each group moves on to another drill.

Some drills are specific to their positions and some drills, of course, pertain to all positions.  This approach keeps every player busy at all times and enables the team to get the maximum work done in the allotted time that they have.  It somewhat reminds me of when I attended spring training sessions for the pros while my brother was a sports writer in Phoenix Arizona.

Lastly and most importantly I feel that every decision by the coaches that I have observed has been made based on doing what is best for the player’s development, improvement, safety, and for the integrity of the game, even if it is not the most popular decision for a fan.

For example, the kids were told to stop sliding head first primarily due to the risk of injury. It was also pointed out to the kids that a foot first slide with a quick pop up to the standing position increases their chances to advance to the next base if the opportunity arises.

I was disappointed at first when I heard Coach Derek tell the kids this because, as a fan, I love watching them slide head first but as a parent (actually grandpa) I do understand that it is less of a risk for injury by having them slide feet first. I will have to admit that I have come to realize that a well executed foot first slide ending with a quick pop up to their feet looks just as impressive as a good head first slide.

I would highly recommend the "GOLDEN ERA BASEBALL PROGRAM" to anyone that has a child or grandchild that loves baseball and wants the opportunity to be part of an organization that is devoted to the kids development and continued improvement of their skills as well as stressing good sportsmanship.

As the coach has pointed out many times:  It's all about getting better!!

Sincerely,
Bob Hawley
AKA:  One very proud grandpa that feels blessed his grandson is in this program

Thank you Bob! From all of us here at Golden Era. We truly appreciate the kind words...

WAGNER & HOOVER BLASTS HOME RUNS FOR 11U

Chris Wagner & Brandon Hoover (Spring 2014)

Chris Wagner and Brandon Hoover both connected for their first home runs of the season on Sunday afternoon. Each players home runs came in the semi-final game against the Fremont Fury, helping lead the Golden Era 11U team to their second consecutive championship game!

Wagner's home run was a missile and Hoover's shot was a bomb that traveled an estimated 250 in the air.

Congratulations guys on your first home runs!

JAKE ROGERS WALK-OFF HIT ADVANCES 11U TEAM!

Jake Rogers (Spring 2014)
In the season to date the Golden Era 11U team has won championships, won some games big, had great hitting and pitching performances... but there was one thing still eluding them... the come from behind win in the last inning.

Until Jake Rogers came up with a game winning hit on Sunday that is.

Here's how it went, bottom of the last inning, Golden Era 11's down 6-5 to Perk's Titans. 2 outs nobody on base and a 0-2 count on Brandon Hoover. Not looking good.

Hoover fouled a couple off to stay alive then blasted a tripe to deep left-field. The next pitch went to the back-stop and just like that the game was tied.

The comeback was not yet complete though, Marco Ferrara ended up working a walk and Nathan Hovey was beamed on the first pitch in the back.

With runners on first and second base now, Jake Rogers came to the plate. Rogers lined a hit into center-field scoring Ferrara. And after being down their last strike with nobody on base down a run, the Golden Era 11's had make their first come from behind walk-off win of the season!
