The Golden Era Bay Area Select squad wrapped up there summer of 2013 season with a win at the Cincinnati Reds Spring Training Complex in Goodyear, Arizona on Monday evening.

Jordan Katzeff (2015 grad) got the start on the mound and had the Arizona Angels baffled all night with a collect of cutters, curves and a sneaky fastball. Kazeff went 5 1/3 innings, allowing only 3 hits and 1 run, enroute to picking up the win.

Golden Era Bay Area Select trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth when the bats came alive. Akintunde Ahmad led off the inning with a walk, followed by an RBI single from Mason Rogan, Jack Montgomery followed with a hit-by-pitch to load the bases.

Bell had one of the best at bats of the summer, drawing 12 pitches, 6 of which were fouled off with two strikes before lining a hit to to right-field putting Golden Era up 2-1.

Tucker Pulliam added an insurance run on a fielders choice, wrapping up the inning with a 3-1 lead.

Katzeff breezed through the fifth inning and retired the first batter in the sixth before walking the next two and being relieved by fellow 2015 grad Matt McDonald.

Matt McDonald (Summer of 2013 in Arizona)
McDonald took the mound in a jam, with runners at 1st & 2nd with one out.

McDonald got the first batter
he faced to ground out to first base, but in the process moved the tying run to second base. McDonald retired the next hitter though on another ground ball to first base to end the threat.

MONSTER MONSOON RIPS THROUGH OUR GAME IN ARIZONA

When we traveled to Arizona we knew it was going to be hot, but little did we expect to be caught right in the middle of a monster monsoon that swept right through our game. Trees were leveled, hitter eyes in center-field were torn down, our tee blew away never to be seen again and nerves were rattled... but everyone walked away safe with a memory sure to last.

Golden Era's Bay Area Select High School Club Team played very well in the 2013 Firecracker Classic in Southern California, advancing to the Championship Round before falling in a great game 3-2 to the Arizona Athletics.

In the process the squad went further than any other team from Northern California.

Game 1
Caleb Schwitters (Firecracker 2013)
G.E. Bay Area Select 3, So-Cal Phillies 1
At Concordia University

In Game 1 of the 2013 Firecracker, Golden Era's Bay Area Select was matched up against the So-Cal Phillies at Concordia University.

Caleb Schwitters got the start on the mound and gave up 1 unearned run in the first inning then settled in, going 6 strong innings en-route to a 3-1 Bay Area Select win, giving the So-Cal Phillies their only lose of the tournament.

G.E.'s Bay Area Select offense came in the middle of the game the second time through the order when Akintunde Ahmad (Oakland) tripled, followed by a line drive single by Eddy Lopez (Tracy) to give Golden Era the lead.

Jake Minton (Dublin) came in to close out the game, pitching a 1 2 3 seventh inning to pick up the save.

Tucker Pulliam (Firecracker 2013)
Game 2
G.E. Bay Area Select 6, Pomona Titans 0
At L.A. Harbor College

Saturday's game matched up G.E.'s Bay Area Select against the Pomona Titans of Southern California's Inland Empire.

Tucker Pulliam was on the mound and had one of those special days, taking a no-hitter into the last inning, before allowing a single.

The Titans held the G.E. Bay Area Select bats down to the bottom of the 6th when Golden Era broke lose with a big inning.

Eddy Lopez (Tracy) lead the inning off with a walk, followed by Mason Rogan (Clayton) and Zac Maloney (Dublin) reaching as well to load the bases for Andrew King (Walnut Creek).

King was hit by a pitch to give Golden Era a 1-0 lead when Aaron Alexander came to the plate knocking a single into left-field scoring two to give G.E. a 3-0 lead. Pulliam then hit a sacrifice fly making the score 4-0.

With two outs Akintunde Ahmad (Oakland) singled up the middle to extend the score to 5-0. Ahmad would latee score on his steal of third base and the ball getting by the third basemen. When the inning had ended G.E.'s Bay Area Select was up 6-0 and went on for the win.

Andrew King (Firecracker 2013)
Game 3
G.E. Bay Area Select 0
So-Cal Outlaws 8

Game 3 of the Firecracker didn't go Golden Era's way, falling 8-0 to the defending Firecracker Champions, the So-Cal Outlaws.

Andrew King, Jake Minton and Jordan Katzeff, three 2015 pitchers combined to pitch the game for G.E.'s Bay Area Select and threw a lot better than the score showed.

The Outlaws were only able to collect 5 hits through seven innings, however the defense also added 6 errors, scoring 7 of the Outlaws 8 runs.

A team has to score to win though and the So-Cal Outlaws pitcher held the G.E. Bay Area Select scoreless in an 8-0 Outlaw win.

Johnny Punla (Firecracker 2013)
Game 4
G.E. Bay Area Select 3, ABD Baseball 0
At Santa Ana College

Johnny Punla got the Game 4 start on the mound and was in normal dominant form, allowing only three hits and striking out seven in his complete game win over the ABD Baseball squad.

The offense came in the third inning when Eddy Lopez lead off the inning with a single, followed by a deep double off the wall by Mason Rogan to make the score 1-0. Caleb Schwitters (Clayton) lined the next pitch into right scoring Rogan to put Golden Era up 2-0 as the team wouldn't look back, cruising to a 3-0 victory.

Clayton Nodal (Firecracker 2013)
Game 5
G.E. Bay Area Select 2, Arizona Athletics 3
At Golden West College

The Championship Round began Tuesday morning at Golden West College matching up Golden Era's Bay Area Select and the Arizona Athletics.

G.E. Bay Area Select had went 3-1 in pool play, only allowing one run total in there 3 wins and the Arizona Athletics had went 4-0 in pool play so the recipe was right for a tight ball-game, and that's exactly how it played out.

The game was scoreless going to the fourth inning when Akintunde Ahmad (Oakland) came to the plate with two outs and nobody on base. Ahmad fell behind in the count 0-2 when he lined a breaking pitch into right-field for a single. Eddy Lopez (Tracy) followed with a single and G.E. Bay Area Select had runners at first and second with Mason Rogan (Clayton) coming to the plate.

Akintunde Ahmad (Firecracker 2013)
Rogan lined the first pitch he seen into right-center for a single, putting Golden Era up 1-0. Lopez would score on the next pitch as the Arizona Athletics pitcher bounced a slider in the dirt getting by the catcher to score Lopez. Golden Era was now up 2-0 and that is where the game would sit heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.

Clayton Nodal (Clayton) got the start on the mound and was mowing down the Arizona Athletics through the first five innings. In the sixth Arizona started off the inning with a lead-off single followed by a two run homerun to tie the game. The Athletics were able to push one more across and move on for the 3-2 win.

The players on both teams played as close as a complete game as you will see, with solid pitching, great defense and some timely hitting.

ROCKY SIZEMORE'S BIG HIT LIFTS GOLDEN ERA TO TOURNAMENT TITLE

Golden Era's 11U squad filled with 2019 & 2020 grads kept their amazing season going this weekend, advancing to another Championship Game en-route to claiming the tournament title.

In the Championship Game Golden Era got matched up against a solid Nor-Cal Titans team and the game was back and fourth the entire way.

The Titans held the edge going into the final inning when Zion Michael reached base to start the inning, Aidan Pearce followed with a walk to place runners and 1st & 2nd with no outs.

Ryan Sasaki came to the plate and laid down a perfect bunt for a base hit and now the G.E. Elite squad had the bases loaded with Rocky Sizemore coming to the plate.

Sizemore was already 2-2 on the day when he hammered a line-drive into left field scoring two and giving Golden Era the lead for good.

Aidan Pearce and Ian Pascual both pitched three innings apiece keeping the team in the game, never allowing the Titans to go ahead by more than one run.

11U GOLDEN ERA HAMMER THE CONCORD PATRIOTS IN WIN

Ryan Mooar (Spring 2013)
The Concord Patriots before the semi-final tournament game huddled up, did a swaying dance, hyped themselves up...

Then were greeted when they took the field by a lead-off single by Ryan Mooar, followed by an RBI hit by Hunter Mott, then an RBI triple by Ian Pascual, followed by another RBI by McGrae Grace and it was 3-0 before the Concord Patriots recorded an out.

For all purposes, the game was already over at that stage because Golden Era starting pitcher Ryan Mooar was in dominant form.

With six runs in the first two innings, Golden Era left no doubt about the eventual outcome.

Ryan Mooar kept Concord Patriots off the scoreboard for all six innings he was on the hill. He pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on two hits while striking out five.

McGRAE GRACE THROWS NO HITTER

In one of those magical pitching season's, McGrae Grace (2019 Grad) threw Golden Era's fourth no-hitter of the season for the 11U squad. Earlier this season Grace came close to a no-hitter, throwing a complete game one hitter.

Sunday would be his day though, as he struck out five en-route to a no-hitter over Miken Baseball.

The team moved on to win the game 11-3, setting the stage to advance and win the tournament.

PUNLA DEALS ON THE MOUND AS G.E. SUFFERS AN EXTRA INNING TOUGH LOSS

Best of the Best Tournament
Punla on the mound in San Diego

Game 4
G.E. 2, San Diego Game Face 3

Johnny Punla was simply superb in his start in the West Coast Best of the Best tournament in San Diego, doing everything in his power for the Bay Area Select squad, throwing seven innings of 3 hit ball while striking out 5 and only allowing 1 earned run through 7 innings.

In the final game of pool play in San Diego, G.E.'s Bay Area Select was matched up against the San Diego Game Face squad. Both teams were 2-1 in the tournament and the winner would secure a berth to advance to the championship round.

Golden Era jumped ahead in the second inning on a single by Jack Montgomery (Fairfield), scoring Mason Rogan (Clayton) to put our Bay Area Select squad up 1-0.

San Diego answered back in the bottom half of the second with a run of their own, aided by a little help from the umpire who missed a blatant call at 2nd base that would of ended the inning without a run being scored.

Golden Era jumped back ahead again in the third inning on a 2 out RBI single by Akintunde Ahmad (Oakland), scoring Mickey Nunes (Vallejo). That is where the score would sit until the bottom of the seventh inning when San Diego was able to push a run across on a broken bat single.

The game moved on to extra innings where S.D. Game Face scored in the bottom of the eighth to take the win 3-2.

The G.E. Bay Area Select team had some trouble in the field which lead to four unearned runs throughout the game, giving the West Coast Bulldogs a cushion Golden Era was not able to rebound from, falling 5-3.

Eddy Lopez (Tracy), Akintunde Ahmad (Oakland) and Aaron Alexander (Concord) all added RBI's hits for G.E.'s Bay Area Select.

AKINTUNDE AHMAD NAMED OAKLAND ATHLETIC LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Akintunde Ahmad (Summer of 2013)
Golden Era Baseball would like to congratulate 2014 grad, Akintunde Ahmad on recently being named Oakland Athletic League Player of the Year.

When Akintunde heard the news at first he was surprised because it wasn't something he set out to do, truthfully it was an award he had forgot they even handed out. He knew of First Team All-League and Second Team All League, but not a league MVP.

When it all settled in though, Akintunde said it felt really good to know his hard work was recognized and people noticed.

For his senior season next year his goal is to try and repeat what he did this year, along with raising his Batting Average, which was right around .500 during the 2013 season swinging a wood bat all year, as well as increasing his number of Stolen Bases and having less errors in the field.

Ahmad says, "He plans to work hard to become a better player for next year over this summer and off-season. I don't want to get complacent".

Even more impressive than his stats and accomplishments on the baseball field, Akintunde is also a gifted musician and student, where he plays the Trumpet, French Horn as well as West African Drum because his mom use to be a West African Dancer as a kid, when he began playing and has continued. At University of California Berkeley, Ahmad is a member of their gifted musician program.

Akintunde also holds a 4.3 GPA in the class room, where English is his favorite subject. For college he wants to go to a 4 year university and major in either the science field, law or business. He is still trying to narrow it down and of course would like to play baseball in college.

Congratulations again to Akintunde Ahmad on a tremendous season and we wish you future success!

G.E.'S BAY AREA SELECT DROP PITCHERS DUEL 2-0

Clayton Nodal
G.E. Bay Area Select 0, Berkovich 2

G.E.'s Bay Area Select and Berkovich locked up in a pitchers duel Thursday afternoon, with Berkovich pulling it out 2-0.

It was one of the better pitching match ups you'll see, with Golden Era's Clayton Nodal and Sean Jenkins of Berkovich both dealing back and fourth on the mound.

Both pitchers scattered only 4 hits in their efforts.

Berkovich was able to score 1 run in the second inning and another in the third, and that would be all they would get off Nodal, who didn't allow a hit after the third inning.

Jenkins was just as impressive, holding G.E.'s Bay Area Select scoreless picking up a 2-0 win.

MICHAEL'S GRAND-SLAM SPARKS ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING COMEBACK'S IN G.E. HISTORY

2013 MEMORIAL DAY CLASSIC UPDATE

Zion Michael & Ian Pascual (Memorial Day Weekend 2013)
Ian Pascual slammed his first home-run of the season on Sunday afternoon against the Tri-Valley Dawgs, a ball that traveled an estimated 260 feet in the air. His home-run gave Golden Era the lead in the 4th inning and the team never looked back, cruising to a 8 to 1 victory.

Sunday's night game didn't start out Golden Era's way, falling behind 9 to 2 early to the Golden Gate Sliders which is where the score sat heading into the last inning. Then one of those once in a season innings happened.

Hunter Mott led off the top of the last inning with a 9 pitch walk, Ian Pascual worked the count and was later hit by a pitch, McRae Grace then came up and walked as well loading the bases for Zion Michael.

Zion got a pitch he could handle and didn't miss, sending an absolute bomb deep into the night sky for a grand-slam. The home-run still put Golden Era behind 9 to 6 but CJ Hudson quickly got it going again with a double to left center.

Rocky Sizemore then reached base on a catchers interference call and Matthew Miles got an infield single to load the bases. Ryan Sasaki now stepped to the plate with still no outs and G.E. down by 3 when he lined a single into left field scoring 2 making it a 9 to 8 ball game.

The next two hitters were retired and with two outs Hunter Mott came to the plate and hit a ball into right field scoring 2 to give Golden Era the lead. Mott then stole 2nd base and scored on the next pitch when Ian Pascual also knocked a hit into right field.

When it was all said and done Golden Era had put 10 runs on the board in the inning giving them a 12 to 9 lead.

Pascual retired the side in order in the bottom half of the inning and just like that the 11U Elite squad and completed one of the most memorial comeback wins in Golden Era history.

The win moved Golden Era to a 3 to 1 record in the Memorial Day Classic heading into Monday's championship round.

Golden Era Wins President's Day Tournament

The 2012 Golden Era 10U squad advanced to the championship the last 4 tournaments they played in last season... and it didn't take too long for the 2013, now 11U team, to pick right back up where they left off.

Over President's Day weekend the guys took the field for there first game action and came right out of the gates running on all cylinders, picking up a 9-2 victory over Modesto. The game was highlighted by 5 Golden Era pitchers holding Modesto to only 2 hits and 0 walks, Aidan Pearce, Ian Pascual, Hunter Mott, Rocky Sizemore and Matthew Miles.

When single elimination play rolled around Golden Era was matched up against the Dublin Dawgs. The Dawgs jumped ahead with 2 unearned runs in the 1st inning, but it was all Golden Era from there. Once again the pitching was spectatular with Pearce, Pascual, Mott and Sizemore again leading the way.

The bats were on fire as well as Golden Era put up 8 runs throughout the game. Ryan Sasaki, Zion Michael, and Hunter Mott all picked up 2 hits a piece. Another big hit came from the best at-bat of the day when Owen Wilson came to the plate with 2 outs and the bases loaded.

Wilson fell behind in the count 0-2, then worked the count full, fouled off a couple more pitches before lining a single to right field to plate 2 runs. Golden Era would score 3 more runs to put the game away for good.

The win advanced the Elite the championship game.

The Championship Game was never really in question as the G.E. Elite scored 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning and put another 10 runs on the board in the 2nd en-route to cruising to a 14-0 victory over the Pleasant Hill Hawks.

At the plate several G.E. hitters we're on fire, lead by Ian Pascual's triple, double and 5 RBI's. Ryan Mooar, Nick Momaney, Ryan Sasaki, Hunter Mott & Zion Michael all picked up hits and RBI's as well.

And if winning the championship 14-0 wasn't enough, Owen Wilson and Ryan Mooar combined to throw a no-hitter in the victory as well. Not a bad way to start the season...

Winter Ball 2012 -- 2013 Begins

Winter Ball, Golden Era's version of Major League Training began today on Sunday December 9th to a large group of players looking to prepare for their upcoming seasons.

Like Major League Spring Training the players spent the day with extended dynamic stretching and core work, to go along with a ton of fly balls or ground balls, wrapped up with each player taking about 200 swings at the plate.

Great work guys!

Our New Program & Team History Page

Golden Era's first 18U Team Summer of 2005
20 future College Players & 3 Players Selected in the Major League Baseball Draft

Over the years there have been so many great moments, great games and memorial player highlights... However one of the things we have not done very well over the years is photograph and document the moments we have had with Golden Era Baseball.

We have what we have from the years past, with we know countless moments not here.

Moving forward as of December 1st, 2012 though we plan to write, photo and video as much as we can to capture these memories as they happen. Might not mean much now but when players and families visit years down the road we hope it takes you back to a great memory...

FALL OF 2012 PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM SET TO BEGIN THIS SUNDAY!

Welcome again to our Fall of 2012 Player Development Program. For some of you this Sunday is a reunion, to get back together with old friends as well as to start making some new ones.
For others, this is the beginning to being with Golden Era Baseball, a road that starts young and that one day may end up seeing your player move on to College. It’s a journey, and we look forward to sharing that journey with you.
We believe baseball is a life-classroom, and coaches are some of the most important influences ever encountered by the youth of any generation.

We know this, and we understand this, so what we strive to bring is a positive environment with organization and structure, surrounded by qualified coaches and individuals who love the game and will do everything we can to help every single player within the program begin to reach their potential.

More importantly though, a lot more importantly, our coaches strive to give the players we work with the understanding and importance of team-work, the importance of values and character, how to handle adversity, responsibility and how to be a leader, not to mention everything else the life classroom of being out on a field create. Those are the staples; those are the grounds of the Golden Era program.

Playing the game the right way and everything it has to give, that experience at the end of the day is what we are striving to offer. And that experience is something players can carry with them for a lifetime.

Where it all starts…
Everything at Golden Era Baseball starts with our philosophy or program definition of success:

Give it your all… Give it everything you have…
And try to do the best you’re capable of doing.

We honestly believe if you do that, if you give it our all, if you give it everything you have and try to do the best you’re capable of doing… Then one could ALWAYS look back and consider what they’ve done a success.

That philosophy is the benchmark of Golden Era Baseball, it is our standard.

If a player gives it his all, if he gives it everything he has… and tries to do the best he’s capable of doing… then what more could he have done? That is how we measure success within Golden Era Baseball.

This Fall we truly look forward to working with the players and trying our best and giving it everything we have as a Coaching Staff, to help each player begin to reach their true potentialboth on the field and off.

To everyone, we wish you all a great Fall Player Development Program, and now it’s time to hit the field and start having some fun and getting to work…
